MS Society Fundraiser

Our office will be raising money for the MS Society for the next three months. We chose to raise money to support MS research and patients because family members of our staff have MS. Also, we provide care for patients who are dealing with this and have seen how devastating it can be.

A goal has been set to raise at least $3,000 to go toward the MS Society. Any new patient who donates $50 or more to the Dr. Krohse’s Cruise the Cornfields fund will receive a complementary first visit (exam, any needed spinal X-rays, and table massage up to $300 value).

Additionally, we would love to have friends and patients of Compass Chiropractic join us on the Cruise the Cornfields ride on June 25 and 26. Contact Dr. Krohse if you’re interested in more info on joining our team.

Call (515) 309-1217 to schedule an appointment!

Introducing Kayla

Office Manager & Practice Representative

Background: My name is Kayla Tweedt and I’m 20 years old, I’ll be 21 on July 9th. I was born and raised on the south side of Des Moines and graduated from Lincoln High School May of 2008. I have two wonderful parents named Tami and David. I also have one younger sibling named David who will be graduating from Lincoln this spring. I was very involved in gymnastics growing up whether it was doing it or coaching it. I am very excited to be a new member of the Compass Chiropractic team!

Favorite aspects of working at Compass Chiropractic: One of my favorite aspects of working at Compass Chiropractic is working in an environment I’m interested in pursuing in the future. I can learn more and get an idea if it’s really something I’m interested in. Also I really like the fact that Compass Chiropractic is very involved with helping the community and different charitable events.

What I enjoy outside of work: Outside of work I love spending time with my friends and family. I have a very close family so we do spend a lot of time together. I also have some great friends who love to be active and are very involved in different forms of art. During the summer we will all get together and play volleyball, disc golf, ultimate frisbee, and other outdoor games. I also enjoy reading, painting, swimming, and watching as many good movies as possible.

How I give back to the community: In high school I was involved in a couple different programs. One was called the Ambassador program where we would volunteer to help with different things in the community. We were very involved with Rock In Prevention where we’d go to elementary schools and talk to kids about the Character Counts pillars. Also in high school I was involved with HOPE Drama Troupe where we would go to middle and high schools and put on different performances to help prevent and inform young people about child abuse and awareness.

Words to live by: “You don’t have to agree, you don’t have to believe, you just have to respect.” This is a quote I live by because there’s so much conflict and not much respect. Just because you and someone else have a difference of opinion doesn’t mean you have to be disrespectful and put the other person down.

Favorite local restaurant: I’m a huge sushi fan and one of my all time favorite restaurants is Miyabi 9 in the East Village. It’s right over by House of Bricks. Even if you don’t like sushi they have many different cooked foods too. Recommended roll to try: Miami Heat Roll.

Something most patients don’t know about me: I don’t get embarrassed easily and I was in theater and show choir as a student in high school so I love to perform.

My experience with chiropractic: Since I did gymnastics I did go to a chiropractor many times growing up. It always made me feel better afterwards.

Thank you for helping us raise funds for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society

With the generous donations of patients we raised nearly $1,000 for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Thank you for the generous contributions and for sharing about our office and fundraising efforts with your friends and family. Dr. Krohse will be running the Dam to Dam in June with their fantastic Team in Training group.

Abbey Recommends Court Avenue Brewing Company

This past Sunday I went to Court Avenue Brewery for an early dinner. I had only been there once, actually it was before I had moved to the Des Moines area, and remembered that they served great food. Once again, Court Avenue did not disappoint. The atmosphere was fantastic and I love the building that it is located in. We were seated immediately in the bar area and were greeted by our waitress in within a couple of minutes. My boyfriend enjoys trying new beers, so he definitely loved the fact that they brew their own beer. We split the margherita pizza and a few wings. Sunday wings are $.49 so we could not pass them up. With the warm weather hopefully here to stay, a nice lunch or dinner on the patio would be a great addition to your day. If you do want to sit outside I do suggest getting there a little earlier than planned as they do not have a huge patio. Overall, it was great service and food and I will definitely be going back before I move in May.

Dr. Krohse Recommends

Dole Salad Kits

I love these kits. My personal favorites are the Southwest Salad and the Hearty Italian Kit. They give you more dressing than you need but the flavors are phenomenal and can be a good addition to a healthy lifestyle.

Condition of the Month – Running Injuries

Through our Pain-Free & Efficient Running Workshops, we hope to reduce injuries in area runners. Our next workshop is scheduled for April 26. However, if one of these injuries does develop, we are thrilled to share that we have the gold-standard treatment to address them, Active Release Techniques (ART).
Read a Runner’s World article about ART here.

A thorough exam determines problem muscles, joints, and nerves in the painful region. Video analysis of gait is often performed. Stabilizing and healing an injured leg condition often includes Active Release Techniques treatment to free up the tight muscles or scar tissue. Rehabilitative exercises and stretches, running gait modification, and chiropractic care may also be recommended. Call our office at 515.309.1217 to schedule a complementary consultation or new patient visit.
