Pain-Free Running Workshop on Saturday went great. We had a packed front office and learned the basics of ChiRunning and Evolution Running. Video of participants was taken at the end for them to see progress/areas needing improvement as we projected this in slow motion. Next workshop is planned for Wednesday, April ...7 at 6:30. Call our office or message us to reserve a spot.

Neck and back pain at work - sometimes the simple solutions are the best! If you deal with neck pain, upper back pain, and headaches while working at the computer you may not be taking breaks often enough. I had a patient whose mid to lower back always became painful while at work. After learning that he was only get...ting up about once every two hours I researched free break reminder software and found this positively reviewed program which was tested spyware-free by download.com. Once he installed this and began using it his back fixed up.

Des Moines Chiropractor Specializing in Active Release Techniques

Yesterday I was talking with my hairstylist and she shared how one of her clients who is a medical doctor had gone up to the Mayo Clinic for a knee replacement. She asked what he was doing for rehab and the doctor shared that among other things they were recommending he get Active Release Techniques to restore range of motion. You can't ask for a much better validation of a specialty than that.

Condition of the Month – Shoulder Pain

Only one bone, the collarbone, connects the shoulder to the central body. Because of this, the shoulder has great range of motion but requires tremendous coordination of the muscles in the region to work properly. Important muscles include the rotator cuff muscles as well as the shoulder blade stabilizing muscles. All of these muscles are controlled by nerves exiting the spine in the lower neck and very top of the back. If this area of the spine becomes injured or aggravated, it can cause pain and dysfunction in the shoulder. Additionally, problems in the muscles of the shoulder themselves can cause pain into the neck. Poor posture is a major cause of pain between the shoulder blades in the upper back.

A thorough exam determines problem muscles, joints, and nerves in the shoulder region. Stabilizing and healing an injured shoulder starts with restoring proper control of the shoulder muscles. Adjustments of the lower neck decrease joint and nerve irritation and restore that control. The appropriateActive Release Techniques problem-focused soft tissue work, strengthening exercises, and stretches will also be recommended to fix the shoulder quickly and permanently.

Contact our office to schedule a first visit or complementary consultation.

A Story of Exceeded Expectations

Compass Chiropractic has been a true delight for me. From the great cleanliness of the office to the sincere greeting and care I receive when I am there I highly recommend you check it out if you have not already.

I went to Compass Chiropractic with severe headaches and shoulder pain. Just after a couple of visits I started to notice the changes. Now my shoulder pain is completely gone and my headaches are diminishing quickly. My treatment was like no other that I had received at other Chiropractors over the years. The unique ART treatment made such a difference for me.

For a great chiropractic experience visit Compass Chiropractic.

Calli recommends...
Kramer's Salsa
Since I come from a chips and salsa loving family and am now married to a man who can not be without the pairing, I have become quite the salsa connoisseur. At Christmas, I was with my brother at Wal-mart in our hometown and we were, of course, picking up chips and salsa for the family. Our favorite salsa was not available so we opted for Kramer's Salsa. Kramer's is, hands down, the best salsa I have ever tasted! Since then I have introduced it all my friends and always hear "What kind of salsa is this? It's so good!". Manufactured in Camanche, IA, Kramer's Salsa is all natural, contains no preservatives and can be found at many local grocery stores, such as Fareway, Dahl's and Walmart. They also have more products on their website at http://www. kramerspecialtyfoods.com/. You may spend a few cents more, but it is definitely worth it!

Dr. Krohse Recommends…
The Standard Process Purification Program

After losing 24 pounds in two months and feeling much better in general, I wholeheartedly recommend the Standard Process 21 Day Purification Program to anyone interested in better health and weight loss. Besides the weight loss, my chronic allergies seem to be greatly decreased, indicating that I may have a low grade intolerance to the gluten found in wheat and other grain-based foods that I have greatly decreased in my post-purification diet.

Details of my experience are chronicled on my blog:

Day 8 Update - 5 pounds lost

Day 16 Update - 12.75 pounds lost

Day 21 End of Purification Program Review - 15 pounds lost - BMI changed from 27.3 (overweight) to 24.9 (normal weight)

One Month Update - 18 pounds lost

Two Month Update - 24 pounds lost

Calli and I are both very glad we went through this program. Lately we've had some patients and friends witness our success and excitement and get started on the program themselves. Because this seems like a great ball to get rolling, we've decided to offer the Purification Program to our patients for $50 off the normal cost through the end of March.

Standard Process Purification Program - $173 + tax through March 31 - call our office to order your kit before the end of the month - 515.309.1217!

Recommendations to help get the best results during and after purification:

MyFitnessPal

I use the Iphone version of myfitnesspal as a daily calorie tracker. It is unbelievably simple to accurately calculate calories consumed in a day. When you first get started it helps you set goals. It also lets you keep track of calories burned through exercise. It has been so great to rapidly be able to look up the caloric repercussions of whatever unneeded snack I may be craving. If I decide to eat it anyway, I can use the program to figure out exactly how much exercise I need to do to make up for the lost ground.
RunKeeper

Another great Iphone app that keeps track of your speed and route while working out. It'll pop up a map of your route at the end and automatically update your run to facebook.

Standard Process Purification - Two Month Update

I weighed in today at two months from the start and I'm down 24 pounds from the start to 150.75. Lately body changes have been more drastic than pounds lost. My love handles are nearly gone. Signs of a six pack are starting to show. I do a quick weight lifting circuit two to three times a week and more veins are popping out on my arms than ever before. I really don't have a starting point to go by as far as body fat but improvements are definitely being made. I still credit the Standard Process Purification as the jump start to a great change in my health, and expect to be able to keep this new lifestyle up long term.

PS I probably would have made even more changes but I still have a weakness for icecream and pizza.
